Ixtapa: (Culture, Beaches, Nightlife)
To start your trip properly you must begin it by seeing Ixtapa’s foremost oasis, by visiting Isla Ixtapa. The crystal clears waters that make up this calm beach is great for snorkeling or long walks on the white sandy beach. On the other end of the island is “Playa Corales” which perfectly named for the offshore coral reef, which should be explored if you have the opportunity. There are several seafood restaurants around to satisfy any hunger after your island adventures. The boat leaves frequently from the Pier at Playa Linda and is only a 5 minute ride, so hop on board!
Cocodrilaro Wildlife Reserve:
Spend some time with the local wildlife, away from the hussel and bussel of the city square. At “Cocodrilario” you will be greeted by the iguanas, crocodiles and many different colored bird species. There is a wooden viewing platform near the bus stop to view the animals in comfort and safety!
Playa el Palmar:
If getting too close to the crocodiles makes you a bit nervous then just skip on down to one of the many fine beaches Ixtapa has to offer. Playa el Palmar is a perfect spot to relax by the glorious waters or splash about in the surf. Wonder down this 2.5 miles of flat perfect sand and cool waters, and admirer the local wares for sale by nearby vendors.
Xihuacan Culture Archeological Tour:
If you have a chance to take in some culture then go take the Xihuacan Culture Archeological Tour. Led by a local guide, explore the archaeological ruins of Xihuacan. This 4-hour tour runs from Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo and will show the major local landmarks, a recently excavated ceremonial center, and the on-site museum. Learn all about the modeling clay during the pre-Columbian era, before a relaxing lunch near a peaceful lagoon. History has never been this luxurious. Don’t miss out!
